2016 IWBHF Inductees Announced

(JAN 31, 2016)  Eight luminaries, whose careers in boxing span nearly five decades, comprise the third class of the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF). The announcement of the honored inductees was made on Saturday at the WBC Female Boxing Convention in Tijuana, Mexico.  The group includes seven boxers from both the "modern era" (1990-2010) and the "pioneer" years of the sport (1960-80), and a trailblazing woman who breached the all male ranks of boxing management in the 1980s. Those to be honored include Sumya Anani, Jane Couch, Elena Reid, Ann-Marie Saccurato, Giselle Salandy (posthumous), Lady Tyger Trimiar, Britt Vanbuskirk and Jackie Kallen.   More details to follow soon.

WBAN / IWBHF to attend the Second Annual WBC Women's Boxing Convention to be held in Mexico January 27 to January 30th!

(JAN 18) WBAN and the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF) are happy to announce that we have several board members attending the WBC Women's World Boxing Convention that is being held from January 27th to January 30th in Tijuana, Mexico.   The IWBHF is honored to be invited by the WBC and will be announcing its IWBHF 2016 Nominees at the Convention with details on the tentative venue and date of the third year Induction Ceremony. Also, WBAN and the IWBHF have some special awards we will be giving at this event. WBAN has confirmed that our 2015 Fighter of the Year, Jessica Chavez will be attending.

PORTLAND, OR - (June 4, 2015)  Laura Serrano whose professional boxing career helped pave the way for women in her home country, will become the first Mexican female fighter to enter the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame. Serrano will join other "modern era" women boxers Laila Ali, Jeannine Garside, Deirdre Gogarty, Ann Wolfe and Terri Moss along with Sparkle Lee, the first female referee licensed professionally in both New York and New Jersey and Phyllis Kugler (posthumous) a pioneer fighter in the 1950s. The second class of the IWBHF will be inducted on July 11 (3:30-6:30 PM) at the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Press Release: Stars Align for Second International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame Ceremony July 11, 2015 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida [In Spanish]

PORTLAND, OR - (May 7, 2015) On July 10, 2014, the initial class of the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame was inducted, during a star studded ceremony, at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Seven icons of the sport were honored in one of the most significant events of the year in the sport of Women's boxing. All living inductees, six in total, were in attendance to receive their honors (Joann Hagan, a pioneer boxer in the 1950s was honored posthumously) and to be paid homage by a sell-out crowd of enthusiastic boxing fans and dignitaries. The 2014 inductees ranged from three world champions who set high the sport's early ring skill level in the rings of Europe and the US (Christy Martin, Lucia Rijker, Regina Halmich), a former boxer turned world class trainer (Bonnie Canino), a true trailblazing female athlete who broke through many boxing barriers in both England and the US in the earliest days of the sport in order to achieve the right to compete in a professional boxing ring (Barbara Buttrick) and a PHD and former boxer who was among those most instrumental in successfully culminating a long struggle to bring female boxing to the Olympic Games in 2012 (Christy Halbert).   Full Story

The International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame Announces the 2015 Inductees!

The International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF) has announced eight women who have been voted into the 2015 class. The group includes six boxers from the modern era of female boxing (1990-2010), one pioneer female fighter of the 1950s and a ring official who trail-blazed past the gender barriers in the field of refereeing.  The IWBHF induction will be held on July 11, 2015,  Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Schedule:  Schedule of Event: 2:15 - 4:00 p.m.: Meet and Greet (with a Cash Bar) including the photograph and autograph session with inductees / celebrities present. Press Release:  New to the IWBHF: July 11th at the 2015 International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony!  PORTLAND, OREGON (May 15, 2015) The July 11th International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF) Induction Ceremony, will mark the initiation of the "IWBHF Lifetime Achievement Award" to be presented, annually, to a selected member of the boxing community whose career has been distinguished by longstanding contributions to the sport of boxing and, specifically, support of Women's boxing. The initial recipient is Jose Sulaiman (posthumous), longtime president of the World Boxing Council (WBC) who passed away in 2014. It has been confirmed that representatives of the WBC will be present in Fort Lauderdale to accept the award.  Two additional special awards in the category of "Top Honor of Excellence" will be awarded to Dr. Martha A. Dodson, Ringside Physician for 15 years with USA Boxing. She has worked extensively with youth athletics as both a Special Olympic coach and a US Olympic and Paralympic team physician.  The second special award will be to Alvin E. Simpson, Charlotte, NC. He retired from the military in 1999, having served 24 years. Al was head coach of the Ft. Bragg Boxing Team at the time of his retirement. He has had many coaching positions, from the Regional to the National Level. Simpson has served as boxing coach, President of the North Carolina Association, coach for the junior Olympics, Silver Gloves, receiving first gold medal,  Coach Simpson has always been supportive of women's boxing in the USA Boxing Organization for amateur boxing when it was first introduced in 1997.  IWBHF President Sue Fox said, "We are thrilled to announce that the WBC will not only be at the event in support of the 2015 inductees with two of them being their past WBC Female Champions (Laila Ali and Jeannine Garside), but to be in attendance to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award for Jose Sulaiman.  In addition,  Dr. Martha Dodson had confirmed to be attending the event, and at this time we are confirming Coach Alvin Simpson at this time."  More to follow....
