July 11th, 2015, at the 2015 International Women's Boxing Hall
of Fame Induction Ceremony! PORTLAND, OREGON (May 15, 2015) The July
11th International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF) Induction
Ceremony, will mark the initiation of the "IWBHF Lifetime
Achievement Award" to be presented, annually, to a selected member
of the boxing community whose career has been distinguished by
longstanding contributions to the sport of boxing and, specifically,
support of Women's boxing. The initial recipient is Jose Sulaiman
(posthumous), longtime president of the World Boxing Council (WBC)
who passed away in 2014. It has been confirmed that representatives
of the WBC will be present in Fort Lauderdale to accept the award.
Two additional special awards in the category of "Top Honor of
Excellence" will be awarded to Dr. Martha A. Dodson, Ringside
Physician for 15 years with USA Boxing. She has worked extensively
with youth athletics as both a Special Olympic coach and a US
Olympic and Paralympic team physician. The second special award will
be to Alvin E. Simpson, Charlotte, NC. He retired from the military
in 1999, having served 24 years. Al was head coach of the Ft. Bragg
Boxing Team at the time of his retirement. He has had many coaching
positions, from the Regional to the National Level. Simpson has
served as boxing coach, President of the North Carolina Association,
coach for the junior Olympics, Silver Gloves, receiving first gold
medal, Coach Simpson has always been supportive of women's boxing in
the USA Boxing Organization for amateur boxing when it was first
introduced in 1997. IWBHF President Sue Fox said, "We are thrilled
to announce that the WBC will not only be at the event in support of
the 2015 inductees with two of them being their past WBC Female
Champions (Laila Ali and Jeannine Garside), but to be in attendance
to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award for Jose
Sulaiman. In addition, Dr. Martha Dodson had confirmed to be
attending the event, and at this time we are confirming Coach Alvin
Simpson at this time."
